Trinity wins battle of the Tigers at the buzzer

Kelsey Goodell's layup as time expired gave Trinity University a 68-67 victory over Colorado College on Saturday night at Reid Gymnasium.

Collier Clegg gave CC a one-point lead when she buried a 10-foot jumper from the right baseline with 10.6 seconds remaining, but as the Colorado College defense collapsed on Danielle Hubanek as she drove to the basket, Goodell was left uncovered for the game-winning basket.

Clegg scored 17 of her game-high 19 points in the second half when Colorado College overcame a six-point deficit with 4:58 remaining to take a one-point lead three times during the final two minutes.

Anne Waidelich led Trinity with 18 points, while Abby Dietert and Goodell finished with 12 points apiece.

Becky Luetjen had 12 points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots for CC.

Trinity made its first four field-goal attempts, all from three-point range, to grab an early 12-4 lead.

Jordy Stephenson made two of three shots from behind the arc and finished the first half with 10 points to help CC tie the game at 37-37 after 20 minutes.

Playing in her final home game, Laura Glen grabbed six rebounds and added three points.

Colorado College slipped to 12-11 overall and 6-8 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, and is tied with Southwestern University for fourth place in the Western Division. TU improved to 16-7 overall and 10-5 in the SCAC.

Colorado College concludes the regular season with games at Millsaps College and Hendrix College next Friday and Sunday, respectively.
