Millsaps denies Tigers SCAC tourney berth

Nick Rose became the 14th player in Colorado College history to score 500 or more points in a single season, but Millsaps prevented the Tigers from locking up a berth in the 2010 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament.

Blake Martinez scored a career-high 29 points to lead the Majors to a 64-51 victory over CC on Friday night.

The Tigers can still qualify for the SCAC tourney by defeating Hendix College on Sunday, or with a loss by Millsaps in its regular-season finale against Austin College.

Nick Rose paced the Tigers with 22 points and his current total of 515 points ties him with Michael Reich (2002-03) for 12th place on the single-season list.

Colorado College led 32-20 after Rose scored 3:59 into the second half, but the Tigers scored just two points during the next six minutes and the Majors used a 15-2 run to build a 45-34 lead with 10:15 remaining in the game.

After falling behind by 13 points, Jeremiah Waters and Rose knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers, but Colorado College would never get closer than seven points the rest of the way.

Brady Ohlsen had a game-high 12 rebounds and nine points.

Cameron Vernado added 13 points for Millsaps.

The Tigers slipped to 12-12 overall and 7-8 in the SCAC. The Majors improved to 11-12 and 7-8 in conference play.
