Grossinger, DeGayner post NCAA B-cut times

2010 SCAC Championship Results - Day 3

Tom Grossinger and Jordan DeGayner posted NCAA qualifying times on the final day of the 2010 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championship at the University of Louisville's Ralph R. Wright Natatorium.

DeGayner qualified for the second time and set his third school record, while Grossinger posted his first B-cut time of the season.

DeGayner's second-place time of 46.06 in the 100-yard freestyle was .39 seconds faster than the minimum NCAA qualifying “B” time and .21 seconds faster than Howie Silleck's school record which had stood since 2001.

Grossinger set his qualifying mark in a time trial of the 100-yard breaststroke. His also recorded his top finish of the meet by claiming fourth in the 200 breast, touching the wall in a season-best time of 2:08.90.

“What a phenomenal end to a great meet,” head coach Anne Goodman James said. “Today brought two more NCAA cuts, more school records and season-best times. We look toward the upcoming NCAA selection process with confidence.”

Colorado College finished the meet in fifth place with 407 points, 34 behind Centre College in the battle for fourth. DePauw University claimed the men's title with 987.5 points, followed by Trinity University (891) and Sewanee (456). Rhodes College was sixth with 348 points.

DeGayner and Grossinger teamed with Devin Wahl and Jack Ludwig to claim third place in the 400 freestyle relay, the final event of the championships. The foursome posted a time 3:14.23, which was just 0.12 seconds ahead of Centre and .69 seconds ahead of Hendrix.

Wahl started the day with a fifth-place finish in the 1,650 free, posting a time of 17:02.99 which was just .41 seconds off CC's oldest school record set by Tom Hackett in 1987.

In the 200 backstroke, Jeff Nadel had his best result by taking fifth place in a season-best time of 1:57.73.

The Tigers had a top-five finish in five of six events and set season-best times in four of five possible races.
