Tigers drop 87-70 decision at Austin College

Colorado College slipped into a tie with Southwestern University in for fourth place in the SCAC's Western Division standings after falling at Austin College, 87-70, on Saturday afternoon.

Emily Wattman-Turner led the Tigers with a career-high 16 points, the seventh time she has reached double-figures this campaign.

Becky Luetjen and Jenny Knapp added 14 points each, while Collier Clegg scored 13.

Colorado College made 13 of a season-high 38 shots from behind the arc. Turner and Knapp knocked down four apiece.

The Kangaroos jumped out to an 18-7 lead 7:56 into the game and led 40-22 with 2:56 remaining in the first half before Clegg scored five points during an 8-0 run that saw CC pull to within 42-32.

Colorado College cut its deficit to single digits when Wattman-Turner scored 2:56 into the second half, but that was as CC would get. 

Austin exploited the Tigers' lack of size by posting a 55-32 advantage in rebounds.

Katy Williams recorded game highs of 31 points and 16 rebounds, while Amber Stafford had 10 points and was credited with 12 assists.

The Tigers slipped to 11-9 overall and 5-7 in the SCAC. The Kangaroos improved to 15-6 overall and 9-3 in conference play.

The top four teams from each division earn a spot in the SCAC's eight-team tournament which will be played at Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss., Feb. 26-28.

Colorado College visits the University of Dallas on Sunday for its final non-conference game of the season.
