No longer in contention for home ice in the post-season, Colorado College has plenty to play for this weekend.
The Tigers can snap a four-game losing streak, retain possession of the coveted Gold Pan and establish some much needed momentum for next week's best-of-three WCHA playoff series somewhere on the road when they resume their rivalry with the University of Denver.
The teams face off at DU's Magness Arena in a 7:37 p.m. (MT) contest on Friday, then officially conclude their 2009-10 regular season in a 7:07 p.m. rematch at the World Arena on Saturday.
Both games will be televised live by
FSN Rocky Mountain.
Sixth-place CC, 17-14-3 overall and 11-12-3 in league play, needs at least three points to keep the Gold Pan for the fourth consecutive year after losing to (2-1) and tying (4-4) with the Pioneers earlier this campaign.
Denver, 24-6-4 overall and 18-4-4 in WCHA play, already has clinched the MacNaughton Cup as the league's regular-season champion and is ranked No. 1 in the nation.
The 15th-ranked Tigers will enter the playoffs as either a sixth or seventh seed, although they still could conceivably finish in a tie for fifth place, and will travel to Minnesota Duluth, North Dakota, St. Cloud State or Wisconsin for the opening round. Winner of each best-of-three series advances to the WCHA Final Five in St. Paul, Minn., starting on March 18.
