Moore, Ellis named top senior athletes

Pair nabs Golden and Van Diest Awards

Seniors Brittney Moore (Ft. Gordon, GA) and Chris Ellis (Colorado Springs, CO) have been named recipients of the annual Laura Golden and Van Diest Awards as Colorado College's top female and male student-athletes among the 2010 graduating class.

The awards were presented on May 4 during Honors Convocation at Shove Chapel.

Moore, a member of swimming and diving team as well as an all-league performer in track and field, will graduate from CC later this month with a degree in psychology. A school record holder in the 400-meter run after posting a time of 57.59 her junior year year, she finished third in the triple jump at the 2010 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference championships two weekends ago. Earlier this spring, she spent 11 days in Peru as part of a community service project with local youth focusing on environmental issues, contamination problems and human rights violations.

Ellis, a three-year starter on the men's soccer team, will receive his degree in economics on May 17. He played in 18 of the Tigers' 20 matches last fall, helping them to a 10-9-1 overall record and 6-4 mark in the SCAC. In addition to his contributions on the field of play, he too has been involved in a number of community service projects and co-curricular activities on campus. Founder of CC Peer Resource and the CC Photography Club, he recently joined Moore as recipients of El Pomar Fellowship Awards.

Both Moore and Ellis are 2006 graduates of Fountain Valley School.

The Van Diest Award has been presented annually since 1936. The Laura Golden Award originated in 1981 and has been won every year except for 1982 and 1995.
