Tigers add goalie to 2010-11 roster

Size of freshman class reaches seven

Tiger Hockey's incoming class of recruits for the 2010-11 season continues to grow.

The total count of freshmen on Colorado College's roster officially reached seven on Thursday when goaltender Josh Thorimbert of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan returned his signed letter of intent.

Thorimbert, who spent the 2009-10 campaign with the Kindersly Klippers of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, was voted SJHL Rookie of the Year after posting a 26-14-4 record, 2.66 goals-against average and .917 saves percentage in 58 appearances between the pipes.

“Josh is a talented goaltender who helped lead the Klippers to a successful season and the SJHL playoff semifinals,” said Scott Owens, who heads into his 12th season as head coach at CC. “We are very excited that he has decided to become a Tiger. His athletic ability, understanding of the position and work habits will enable him to contribute now and continue to develop during his tenure at Colorado College.”

On a roster that may feature as many as 16 freshmen and sophomores this fall, Thorimbert will be the youngest CC player of all. He won't turn 18 until early October.

“I can't wait to get down there and start the season,” Thorimbert said. “When I visited, I liked everything I saw. It just seemed like a great place to get my education and play hockey.”

After finishing third in the SJHL's Sherwood Conference during the 2009-10 regular season, Kindersly swept a first-round playoff series against the Notre Dame Hounds before being eliminated in seven games by the Yorkton Terriers. Thorimbert was in net for all 11 outings.

His addition to the Colorado College roster allows Michael Shibrowski, who joined the Tigers last December for the second half of the '09-10 season, to return to the Junior A ranks for another year. Shibrowski plans to re-enroll, continue working toward his degree and resume his career at CC in the fall of 2011.

Thorimbert, currently 6-0 and 185 pounds, joins sophomore Joe Howe and senior Tyler O'Brien as the team's goaltending corps for next season. The list of freshmen also includes defenseman Eamonn McDermott, along with forwards Dakota Eveland, Alexander Krushelnyski, Michael Morin, Jaden Schwartz and Archie Skalbeck.
