CC rallies to defeat Austin College in overtime

Becky Luetjen poured in 27 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as Colorado College erased a 12-point deficit midway through the second half to post a 71-68 overtime victory at Austin College on Saturday afternoon.

Luetjen's final bucket gave Colorado College a 70-68 lead with 24 ticks remaining in overtime, and then freshman forward Gracie Rennecker blocked Kersti Marusich's layup with 10 seconds to go to help seal the victory.

Emily Wattman-Turner, who finished with a career-high 17 points, made the second of two free throws with four seconds remaining and Austin's desperation three-point attempt fell short as time expired.

Kalli Kemling finished with 11 points and posted career highs with nine rebounds and five assists.

Luetjen scored 20 or more points for the fifth time this season. She also recorded her fifth double-double of the year and the 15th of her career.

The Roos' appeared to be in complete control when Angeleena Young buried a three pointer with 11:53 to go, giving Austin a 53-41 lead.

That's when Luetjen drained back-to-back shots from behind the arc to ignite a 20-2 run that put the Tigers up 61-55 with 4:40 left on the clock.

CC led 64-60 after a layup by Luetjen, but the Tigers missed their final three shots from the floor and committed three turnovers during the final 2:23 to let the Roos' back in the game.

Marusich cut Austin's deficit in half with 2:01 to go, and then tied the game with 20 seconds remaining in regulation.

Shayna Clark scored 13 points to pace the Kangaroos, while Erin Riley and Marusich added 12 points apiece.

CC improved to 6-7 overall and moved into sole possession of third place in the Western Division of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference with a 3-2 record. The Tigers extended their winning streak to three and won for the fifth time in their last six games.

Colorado College plays its final non-conference game of the season on Sunday at the University of Dallas.
