Trip to Omaha next for No. 2-ranked CC

Tigers return to WCHA play after three-week hiatus

Three weeks after opening the season with a home-ice sweep of Bemidji State University, Colorado College finally resumes its WCHA schedule when the No. 2-ranked Tigers put their perfect 4-0 record on the line in a two-game series at the University of Nebraska Omaha.

Faceoff at CenturyLInk Center (15,959 seating capacity) is 7:37 p.m. (CT) Friday and 7:07 p.m. Saturday.

The road trip is the program's first-ever to the Cornhusker State.

CC, 2-0 in league play, enters the weekend tied for sixth place but has at least two conference games in hand with each of the top five teams, including Nebraska Omaha.

The unranked Mavericks are 4-4 overall and 3-1 in the WCHA, good for a third-place tie, after splitting at the University of Wisconsin last week when Colorado College posted a pair of 4-1 non-league victories at RPI.

Junior netminder Joe Howe, who backstopped both triumphs over the Engineers, currently leads the nation with a 0.90 goals-against average and .964 saves percentage.

This week's series opener marks just the fourth official meeting ever between the Tigers and UNO, who split a pair of decisions at the World Arena last December. The teams previously skated to a 2-2 tie in the opening round of the Nye Frontier Classic in Anchorage, Alaska, on Oct. 13, 2006, when Nebraska Omaha won a post-overtime shootout to advance to the tournament championship game.

Colorado College looks to spoil the party for third-year Mavericks bench boss Dean Blais, who on Friday celebrates his 500th game as a collegiate head coach. Blais previously spent 10 seasons at the University of North Dakota helm, where he posted a record of 262-115-33. He's 45-36-8 with his new team, which he took to the NCAA playoffs last spring before suffering a 3-2 overtime loss to the University of Michigan at the West Regional.
