Dineen, Thorimbert spark Tigers to split

CC bounces back for 5-2 victory at Nebraska Omaha

Inadvertently included by the public-address announcer among Colorado College's scratches during pre-game introductions, Josh Thorimbert became a very conspicuous factor in Saturday's game at CenturyLink Center.

Thorimbert made a career-high 45 saves, while Nick Dineen continued to torment his hometown team, providing the winning formula in a 5-2 victory over the University of Nebraska Omaha that gave CC a split of its weekend series in the Cornhusker State.

Dineen scored a goal and assisted on three others as the No. 2-ranked Tigers improved to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the WCHA. The senior center and team captain, an Omaha native, now has six goals and nine points in four career appearances against UNO.

Thorimbert, meanwhile, recorded 23 of his stops in a second period that saw the Mavericks out-shoot Colorado College by a 24-6 margin but head into the final 20 minutes trailing 2-1. And, despite misplaying the puck behind his own net and allowing a fluke shorthanded tally by Ryan Walters that tied the contest midway through the third frame, the sophomore goaltender from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, ultimately reaped the reward he deserved.

Dineen helped set up sophomore left wing Jaden Schwartz for CC's third power-play goal of the game and fifth of the weekend with 6:27 left to play. It stood up as the game winner after Rylan Schwartz and Dakota Eveland added empty netters in the final minute to seal the triumph.

Senior defenseman Gabe Guentzel staked the Tigers to a 1-0 lead with a blast from the right point at 6:30 of the middle stanza, then saw Dineen redirect his wrist shot from the opposite side past Nebraska Omaha netminder Ryan Massa just 65 seconds later to make it 2-0.

Massa, a freshman, steered aside 22 shots for the Mavericks, who dropped to 5-5 overall and 4-2 in league play. Sophomore defenseman Andrej Sustr spoiled Thorimbert's shutout bid with the teams skating four a side at 16:54 of the second period.
