Jordy Stephenson tied her season-high with 20 points as Colorado College came from behind to defeat Johnson and Wales University, 71-66, on Tuesday night at Reid Gymnasium.
The Tigers evened their record at 5-5 and avenged their season-opening loss against the Wildcats in Denver. JWU dropped to 9-6 on the season.
Despite shooting a meager 1-for-9 from long range, Colorado College shot a 45.8 percent from the floor for its second-highest field goal percentage this season.
The Tigers began the game without starting forward
Kalli Kemling. Then 37 seconds into the game lost guard Hannah Hoopingarner, who started in her first game this season, to an injury.
Freshman
Shelby Hanssen made a layup with 3:31 left in the first half to tie the game for the seventh time at 26-26. Johnson and Wales answered right back with a three-pointer to retake the lead and went on a 5-3 run to enter halftime with a 31-29 lead over CC.
The Tigers gave up 11 second chance points during the first half and went 0-for-5 from long range.
With the game tied for the 11th time at 40-40, the Wildcats went on a 7-2 run to take a 49-42 lead with 10:45 left in the game.
Colorado College answered back with a 13-8 run to once again tie the game at 57-57 with 4:29 remaining. Hanssen scored four points during that run, while Stephenson added five points, which included the Tigers' lone three of the game that was made at the 6:22 mark.

Jenny Knapp made a free throw to tie the game at 62-62. Knapp's free throw ignited a 9-4 run as CC went on to win the game, 71-66.

Becky Luetjen and junior
Marissa Gradoz each had a team-high 11 rebounds for the Tigers. Luetjen also added 13 points on offense for her fourth double-double of the season.
Hanssen scored a career-high 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the floor. Gradoz dished out a season-high six assists, while Stephenson tied her career-high five. Freshman
Courtney Tyus aided the defense with a career-high four steals.
Johnson and Wales was led by Kourtney Shirley with 29 points. Victoria Huber added 18 points, while Caitlin Dunken scored 10. Jasmine Culbreath led the defense with 10 rebounds.
Colorado College returns to the road for a conference matchup against Hendrix College on Saturday in Conway, Ark., at 1 p.m. CT.
