Colorado College literally threw away a chance to solidify its position in the battle for a berth in the upcoming Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament on Friday night.
The Tigers committed a season-high 35 turnovers and could only watch as Trinity avenged its earlier loss at CC with an easy 85-47 victory.
Colorado College slipped to 9-13 overall and 6-7 in the SCAC. TU improved to 10-12 overall and evened its conference record at 7-7.
With three regular-season games remaining, CC is now a half-game behind both Trinity and Southwestern in the race for the final two playoff spots from the Western Division.
Through the first five minutes, it appeared as though Colorado College was ready to put together a solid performance on the road.
Alyssa Aldaz scored four points to help CC grab an early 10-3 lead, and after TU came back to grab the lead, Becky Lutjen tied the game at 14-14 with 10:58 remaining in the opening frame.
But from that point on, it was almost all Trinity. The hosts scored 20 points off 21 Colorado College turnovers and outscored CC 28-10 to build a 42-24 advantage at the break.
Any thoughts of comeback were quickly put to rest when TU began the second half with a 23-4 run which extended its lead to 37 points with just over 13 minutes left in the game.
Luetjen paced the Colorado College with 11 points, while Alyssa Aldaz added 10.
Trinity had four players reach double-figure points, led by Danielle Hubenak with 19.
CC faces a must-win situation on Sunday when it travels to Southwestern for the final road game of the regular season.
