BSC uses 3-pointers to edge Tigers

Box Score Birmingham-Southern College knocked down 10 3-pointers, including one by Sam Davidson with 50 seconds remaining to re-gain the lead, and escaped Reid Gymnasium with a 60-57 victory on Friday.

The Tigers had an opportunity to tie the game with a pair of possessions during the final minute, but a missed layup and a turnover kept the Panthers in the lead. After Davidson added a free throw with 3.7 seconds remaining, CC could only muster a 35-foot desperation shot as time expired.

Senior forward Becky Luetjen poured in game-high 23 points, including the Tigers' final five points from the free-throw line. After freshman forward Shelby Hanssen scored on a layup with 4:45 remaining, Colorado College 0-for-6 from the floor.

Senior guard Jordy Stephenson reached double-figure points for the 11th time and finished with 13 points, 10 of which came during the opening 20 minutes.

Davidson connected on five of 10 shots from behind the arc and led the Panthers with 16 points.

The Panthers built a 23-16 after Melanie Short knocked down a short jumper with 8:48 remaining in the first half, but the Tigers countered with a 12-4 run and took their first lead since early in the first half on a layup by Marissa Gradoz with 2:50 to go.

The Tigers slipped to 5-5 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference and 9-10 overall. BSC improved to 10-9 overall and 5-5 in conference play.

Colorado College looks to snap a three-game skid when it plays host to Oglethorpe University on Sunday at 11 a.m.
