Tigers rebound to defeat Oglethorpe

Box Score Colorado College used a dominating performance on the glass to make up for a sloppy first half and snapped a three-game skid with a 68-47 victory over Oglethorpe University on Sunday at Reid Gymnasium.

Senior forward Becky Luetjen scored 18 of her game-high 26 points in the second half and completed her 10th double-double of the season with 11 rebounds. It's the eighth time this season Luetjen has registered 20 or more points in a game.

The Tigers made just nine of 31 shots from the floor and committed 14 turnovers during the opening 20 minutes to let the Stormy Petrels take a one-point lead into the break.

But the second half was a completely different story.

Colorado College scored 11 consecutive points of the second half to take a 39-29 lead just 3:21 into the second frame and the Tigers led built a 13 point-advantage after Jordy Stephenson completed a three-point play with just 6:45 expired.

The Stormy Petrels countered with a 7-0 run and cut their deficit to six points on a pair of free throws by Morghan Brandon with 9:43 to play.

From that point on, however, it was all CC.

Luetjen ignited an 8-2 to put the Tigers up 54-42 with 6:18 remaining, and after Sarah Giles scored the last of her 13 points with 5:20 to go, Colorado College ran off 12 consecutive points to close out the game.

Freshman forward Shelby Hanssen grabbed a season-high 13 rebounds and added eight points for the Tigers, while junior forward Marissa Gradoz tied her season high with 11 boards and also chipped in eight points.

The Stormy Petrels led 19-13 when Weeks scored on a drive along the right baseline with 8:40 remaining in the first half, but Luetjen scored six points during a 15-5 run that gave the CC a four-point advantage after Stephenson knocked down a jumper on the left side of the lane with 1:45 to go.

Weeks finished with 13 points.

CC's 54 rebounds were a season high, while the Tiger's margin of 18 matched the best this season first set during the victory at the University of Dallas on Jan. 8.The

Colorado College improved to 10-10 overall and 6-5 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. OU slipped to 6-14 overall and 3-8 in conference play.

Colorado College plays at home again next weekend when Austin College and the University of Dallas visit Reid Gymnasium on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
