Becky Luetjen scored a team-high 22 points, shooting 80-percent on the floor, to help lead Colorado College to a 83-72 victory over Austin College on Friday evening in Sherman, Texas.
The Tigers shot a season-high 52.4 percent from the floor on a season-high 33 field goals en route to their win over the Kangaroos. CC's 83 points was also a season-high and was its highest scoring game in over a year.
Colorado College extended its season-best winning streak to four games and is now 8-5 on the season and remains atop the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference's West Division standings with a 4-0 record.
Down 7-3 early in the first half, junior
Sarah Gunkel hit a jumper with 15:57 remaining in the half to help ignite an 8-0 run which put Colorado College ahead for good.
The Kangaroos ended the Tigers' run with a jumper by Lexi Beeson, but CC answered right back by going on a 7-0 run that was sparked by a three-point play by freshman
Courtney Tyus. Luetjen scored the remaining points of the streak on two made layups to help the Tigers take a 24-11 lead with 9:31 left in the half.
Colorado College sailed into halftime with a 49-31 lead, while shooting a blistering 60.6-percent from the floor.
With the Tigers ahead 66-53 midway through the second half, the Kangaroos went on a 12-2 run to pull within three points with 4:27 left in the game. Austin got help during its run making 6-of-7 shots from the charity stripe.
Junior
Marissa Gradoz ended the Kangaroos run with a jumper to help set up a 7-0 run and extend CC's lead to 10 points with 1:53 remaining in the game. The Tigers held on to its double-figure lead to win the game 83-72.
Tyus and Gunkel aided CC's offense scoring 15 points each for career highs. Gradoz dished out a season-high seven assists to support the offense and led the defense with a team-high 10 rebounds.
The Tigers continue conference play on the road as they take on the University of Dallas on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT in Irving, Texas.
