Box Score Colorado College nearly overcame a 22-point deficit in the second half, but the injury-riddled Tigers ran out of time and players during a 77-65 loss at the University of Dallas on a Sunday afternoon.
Senior guard
Jordy Stephenson poured in 21 of her career-high 23 points in a span of 15:38 in the second half when the Tigers used a 36-16 run to pull to within two points with 3:20 remaining in the game.
The Tigers trailed by just five points when senior forward
Becky Luetjen scored the last of her 21 points with 55 seconds remaining, but CC's next four possessions resulted in a pair of missed shots and two turnovers.
Luetjen also grabbed 11 rebounds before fouling out with 36 seconds left to complete her sixth double-double of the season and the 24th of her career.
After Christy Allen's layup gave the Crusaders a 47-25 lead with 16:36 to play, Stephenson and Luetjen scored four points apiece to fuel a 17-4 run that cut CC's deficit to single digits for the first time since late in the first half.
UD appeared to regain control when it extended its lead to 60-46 with 7:02 to go, but Stephenson scored 10 points during a 15-3 streak to pull the Tigers to within two points at 63-61.
Colorado College had its only lead of the game when freshman guard
Courtney Tyus hit a jumper to put the Tigers ahead 2-0 early in the first half.
CC's lead didn't last long as Marleyna Bustamante hit a jumper to tie the game and ignite a 20-6 run for the Crusaders.
Junior
Marissa Gradoz added 10 rebounds for her second straight game of grabbing double-figure rebounds.
Colorado College slipped to 8-6 on the season and 4-1 in conference play.
Bustamante finished with a game-high 29 points to help the Crusaders improve to 4-8 this season and 1-4 in conference action.
The Tigers play host Centre College on Friday at 6 p.m. in Reid Gymnasium.
