Tigers drop 66-60 decision to Macalester

Box Score Despite outrebounding its opponent, 46-29, Colorado College was unable to come away with the victory on Saturday evening. The Tigers fell to Macalester College, 66-60, in the final game of the 2012 Tip-Off Tournament in Reid Arena.
 
Senior Marissa Gradoz led CC on the boards with a career-high 15 rebounds. Seniors Sarah Gunkel and Kalli Kemling also aided the defense grabbing eight rebounds each.
 
The Tigers took a 16-11 lead midway through the first half after Gradoz dished a pass to Gunkel for a made layup, but the Scots answered with 9-0 run to take a 20-16 lead with 6:38 left in the half.
 
Colorado College regained its lead when freshman Courtney Tyus drove in for a layup to spark a 7-0 run. However, Macalester answered again and built a 35-23 lead off of a 15-0 run that was capped by a layup by Carmen Whitehead with 1:50 remaining.
 
Kemling and Gunkel combined for six points to close out the first half for the Tigers and whittle the Scots lead to 37-29 going into intermission.
 
Late in the second half, Macalester held a 61-46 lead with 4:45 left in the game. CC attempted a comeback when Kemling hit a layup to ignite a 14-5 run and pull within six, but the Tigers were unable to complete the comeback as the clock expired.  
 
CC was led offensively by Kemling and Gunkel who scored 14 points apiece. Gradoz added 13 points to earn her first double-double of the season. Tyus orchestrated the offense dishing out a team-high five assists.
 
The Scots (1-1) were led by Kyanna Jones with 18 points, while Emma Leyden added 10.
 
Colorado College (0-2) continues play at home as it hosts the 2012 Thanksgiving Tournament in Reid Arena on Nov. 21-24. The Tigers begin the tournament against St. Olaf College at 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
