Box Score St. Olaf College outshot Colorado College en route to an 80-51 win over the Tigers on Wednesday evening in the first matchup of the 2012 Thanksgiving Classic in Reid Arena.
The Oles sank 30-of-67 shots including 8-of-24 from long range to come away with the victory, while CC went 17-of-53 from the floor and 0-of-10 from the 3-point arc.
St. Olaf took the early lead 22 seconds into the first half when Mackenzie Wolter hit a 3-pointer from Lauren Gutierrez. From that point the Oles continued to slowly build their spread for the rest of the contest.
St. Olaf held a 27-8 lead midway through the first half, but CC fought back to cut the deficit to 27-14. The 6-0 run was sparked by two made free throws by freshman
Danielle Davis and ended with four points by sophomore
Courtney Tyus.
Despite the loss, The Tigers turned the ball over five fewer times and had six more steals than the Oles. St. Olaf also fouled 27 times, while CC only fouled 17 times.
CC was led by senior
Marissa Gradoz with 11 points and eight rebounds. Tyus added 10 points along with a career-high six steals and three assists for team-bests.
The Oles (1-0) were led by Kim Cerjan with 21 points, while Emily Wahlberg picked up a team-high nine rebounds on defense.
Colorado College (0-3) continues play at home as it continues to host the 2012 Thanksgiving Tournament in Reid Arena on Nov. 21-24. The Tigers play against Ohio Wesleyan University at 3 p.m. on Friday.
