Wildcats prove too much for Tigers

Box Score Colorado College fell to a balanced shooting performance by Johnson and Wales University, 76-61, Wednesday evening in Denver, Colo.    
 
Johnson and Wales hit 13 of its 27 field goals from behind the three-point line to earn the win and had five players who scored in double figures: Kristen Ward (17), Kourtney Shirley (15), Caitlin Durken (12), Amanda Weber (10) and Tameka Manning (10).
 
The Tigers held a 13-10 lead after Katie Wirth drained a jumper with 12:38 left in the first half, but the Wildcats rallied back to take the lead on a 6-2 run when Manning hit back-to-back shots from long range.
 
Johnson and Wales (5-9) finished the half on an 8-0 run to take a 36-24 advantage at intermission.
 
The Wildcats carried their momentum into the second half never allowing the Tigers any closer as they continued to build their lead to earn the victory.
 
CC was led by senior Marissa Gradoz tying her career-high 19 points and added nine rebounds to lead the defense. Sophomore Courtney Tyus and Wirth each added 10 points, while senior Sarah Gunkel and freshman Katie Waters contributed with eight points each.
 
Colorado College (2-8) takes a couple weeks off during the holiday season and will host Calvin College and Concordia University Wisconsin on Dec. 28-30 to close out 2012.
