No. 3 Calvin College runs past Tigers

Box Score Calvin College took advantage of its height and depth to record a 78-32 victory over Colorado College on Friday night at Reid Arena.

Senior forward Julia Hilbrands and senior center Carissa Verkaik scored 10 points apiece for the third-ranked Knights, who got at least one field goal from all 14 of their players.

Senior guard Logan Marsh came off the bench to score three points and dish out a game-high six assists.

Colorado College trailed just 8-5 after sophomore guard Courtney Tyus knocked down a three-pointer 3:20 into the game, but managed only 11 points the rest of the half as Calvin built a 41-16 lead at the break.

Despite being saddled with three fouls in the first half, senior forward Marissa Gradoz paced the Tigers with nine points. Tyus finished with seven points, six rebounds, four steals and three assists.

Freshman guard Katie Wirth grabbed a game-high eight rebounds for the Tigers, while senior forward Sarah Gunkel finished with eight.  

CC, which committed a season-high 34 turnovers, dropped to 2-9. The Tigers shot just 24-percent from the floor while scoring a season-low 32 points.

The Knights, who improved to 9-1, play Concordia University of Wisconsin on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Colorado College plays host to Concordia at 2 p.m. Sunday.
