Jake Tramutolo helped lead Colorado College to a 68-49 victory over Austin College in the Tigers' Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opener, Friday evening in Reid Arena.
Tramutolo went 5-for-7 for a 71.4 field-goal percentage from beyond the arc to pace CC with 15 points. The guard also dished out a team-best four assists to aid the offense.
Early in the first half, the game was tied at 4-4, but freshman
Juwan Rohan hit a three pointer to help spark a 13-2 run to give the Tigers control of the game. During CC's run, Tramutolo drained back-to-back threes to help spur the offense, which made eight of its 13 shots from long range in the first half.
Tramutolo made his last three of the game with 50 seconds left on the clock in the first half to give the Tigers an 11-point lead. CC went into halftime with a 33-24 lead.
The Kangaroos (1-7, 0-3 SCAC) began the second half cutting the Tigers' lead to 33-28 after Antoine Thompson hit a free throw and Ransom Okpala made a three pointer, but CC answered back with long-range shooting by freshman
Justin Berardino and junior
Daniel Webb to give the team a 39-28 lead with 17:37 left in the game.
The Tigers carried its momentum throughout the rest of the game as they slowly built their lead and ended the second half with the largest lead of the game when junior
Corey Dyer nailed a shot from behind the arc to give CC a 19-point lead with 40 seconds left in the game.
Senior
Ian Rewoldt grabbed 13 boards and a career-high six steals to lead the team defensively. Junior
Ryan Milne contributed with 13 points and four assists for the Tigers' offense, while Berardino added 10 points.
Okpala and Walter Phillips led the Austin offensively with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Thompson led the defense with 10 rebounds.
Colorado College (3-3, 1-0 SCAC) continues to play against Austin College in Reid Arena at 8 p.m. on Saturday.
