Balanced Tigers cruise past Dallas, 85-53

Box Score Five different players scored double-figure points as the Colorado College women's basketball team avenged an earlier loss at the University of Dallas with an 85-53 victory over the Crusaders on Sunday afternoon at Reid Gymnasium.

The Tigers improved to 12-10 overall and 8-5 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, and moved a half-game ahead of Southwestern University atop the West Division. UD slipped to 7-14 overall and 3-10 in conference play.

Freshman point guard Courtney Tyus paced the Colorado College offense with 14 points. Junior forward Sarah Gunkel posted her second double-double of the weekend with 13 points and 11 rebounds, while freshman forward Shelby Hansen recorded 11 points and 12 rebounds to post the first double-double of her career.

All 10 players scored for the Tigers, who put up a season-high 85 points. The 32-point winning margin was CC's largest since a 92-36 victory over Johnson & Wales University on Jan. 25, 2007.

Colorado College also dominated the glass, where its 68-37 advantage was the biggest of the season. Junior forward Marissa Gradoz grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds and chipped in eight points.

All five starters scored as the Tigers raced out to an early 14-0 lead. Kylie Yoshimura finally put UD on the board when she connected on one of her three 3-pointers 4:52 into the game.

CC built a 16-point lead when freshman guard Laura Hoffman knocked down a baseline jumper with 8:28 remaining in the first half, and after the Crusaders fought back to within 12 points, senior guard Jordy Stephenson drained a three-pointer from the right wing with 4:02 to play  to put the Tigers on top, 34-17.

Yoshimura scored 13 of her game-high 19 points during the first to keep the Crusaders within striking distance, and Brooke Hagemann's jumper from the left side trimmed UD's deficit to 36-24 after 20 minutes.

The Tigers took control with a 10-0 run during the first two minutes of  second half, taking a 46-24 lead on a 3-pointer by Tyus. After CC extended its lead to 27 points on a trey by senior guard Jenny Knapp, the Crusaders scored five in a row to pull to within 57-36 after a basket by Hagemann.
 
Colorado College travels to Texas next weekend for its final two road games of the regular season, visiting Southwestern and Trinity University on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
