Fresh off an emotional pair of showdowns in which it
reclaimed the Gold Pan for the first time since the 2008-09 season, Colorado College prepares to head back out on the road this week in pursuit of more WCHA points.
CC, currently third in the league standings and ranked No. 10 nationally, makes the long trip to northern Minnesota for a two-game series at Bemidji State University.
Faceoff at Sanford Center, home of the Beavers, is 7:37 p.m. CT Friday and 7:07 p.m. Saturday.
The Tigers, 15-9-2 overall and 12-7-1 in the WCHA, have lost only two of their last nine conference outings. The 6-2-1 run since mid-December has lifted them to within two points of second place MInnesota Duluth with eight games remaining in the regular season.
Bemidji State, unranked at 13-12-3 overall and 7-10-3 in league play, currently occupies ninth place after tying (1-1) and winning (6-4) at the University of Nebraska Omaha last weekend.
Colorado College, which swept BSU (3-1, 6-4) to open league play ay home back in mid-October, tied (5-5) and lost (2-1) in its only previous trip to Bemidji a little less than a year ago. The teams actually have met only eight times before, with the Tigers owning a 5-2-1 edge in the rivalry.
Despite skating to a 2-0 victory and 2-2 come-from-behind draw against the University of Denver last Friday and Saturday, then moving up a notch to the No. 10 spot in both national polls on Monday, CC is tied for 15th in the all-important Pairwise Rankings that mirror the selection process for next month's 16-team NCAA tournament field.
