Kemling leads Tigers in comeback over Dallas

Box Score Senior Kalli Kemling's offensive performance in the second half sparks a 24-point comeback to lead Colorado College to a 62-59 victory over the University of Dallas on Friday evening in Irving, Texas.
 
Kemling scored 21 of her career-high 33 points in the second half alone on 8-of-9 shooting for an 88.9 field-goal percentage.
 
Tied 3-3 early in the first half, Dallas took the lead with a made free throw by Brooke Hageman to ignite a 31-6 run that was completed by a layup from Kylie Yoshimura with 5:46 remaining in the half.
 
The Crusaders (5-8, 0-5 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) closed out the first half with a 45-21 lead at intermission.
 
CC came out fighting in the second half as it began play with a 37-12 run to give the Tigers' their first lead in over 36 minutes of action. Kemling scored 17 points during the run to aid the offense, while the team held Dallas to only 14 points in the second half.
 
Freshman Katie Wirth assisted Danielle Davis with a layup 11 seconds into the half to spark the CC run. The duo teamed up again to end the run with 2:20 left in the game to give the Tigers a 58-57 lead.
 
The Crusaders regained the lead with a layup by Yoshimura with 1:38 remaining, but Kemling finished the game with four made free-throws to give the Tigers the victory.  
 
Kemling led CC, scoring more than half of the Tigers' points with her career-high 33 points on 12-of-16 shooting for a 75.0 field-goal percentage. The senior was also a perfect 8-for-8 from the charity stripe and grabbed seven rebounds and four steals.
 
With the win, the Tigers (3-12, 3-2 SCAC) earned their third victory of the season while holding their opponents to under 60 points. CC also earned the win shooting higher than 40.0 percent from the floor for the third time this season. The Tigers shot a 45.7 field-goal percentage on 21-of-48 shooting for their second best mark of the season.     
 
Davis also contributed with double-digit scoring tying her career-high 11 points and also had six rebounds and four assists. Senior Marissa Gradoz led the defense with eight rebounds, while Tyus led the offense dishing out six assists.
 
Dallas was led by Hagemann with 14 points and eight rebounds. Yoshimura led the team with seven assists and five steals.
 
Colorado College plays Dallas for the second time on Saturday at 6 p.m. in Maher Athletic Center.
