Crusaders turn tables on Tigers

Box Score One day after squandering a 25-point lead in a loss to Colorado College, the University of Dallas turned the tables on the Tigers and overcame a late five-point deficit to record a 62-59 victory on Saturday night.

Sophomore guard Courtney Tyus gave CC a 57-52 lead when she buried a 3-pointer with 3:01 to play, but the Crusaders answered with six consecutive points and took a 58-57 lead on a jumper by Marleyna Bustamante with 43 seconds to go.

The Tigers regained the lead nine seconds later when senior guard Kalli Kemling sank a pair of free throws, however Brooke Hagemann connected twice from the charity stripe to put UD ahead to stay with only 20 seconds remaining.

Kemling, who poured in a game-high 24 points, had a chance to put Colorado College ahead, but her long-range shot wouldn't fall and Bustamante added a pair of free throws to close out the scoring.

It marked the second game in a row and the fourth time in her career that Kemling finished with 20 or more points.

Senior forward Marissa Gradoz recorded her third double-double of the season and the fifth of her career with 14 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Tyus reached double-figures for the 11th time this season with 12 points.

Bustamente led Dallas with 20 points, while Christy Allen posted a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

CC slipped to 3-13 overall and remains third in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference with a 3-3 record. The
Crusaders improved to 6-8 overall and is now 1-5 in league play.

The Tigers continue their six-game road stretch next week with games at Centenary College and Austin College on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
