Box Score For three periods, plus nearly five full minutes of overtime, senior goaltender
Josh Thorimbert slammed the door on Clarkson University.
Then, on Clarkson's 43rd shot of the night, junior forward Joe Zarbo slipped a backhand through traffic and the senior netminder's pads to lift the Golden Knights to a 1-0 sudden-death victory over Colorado College that completed a weekend sweep at Cheel Arena in Potsdam, N.Y.
The Tigers managed just 18 shots on goal of their own while suffering their third consecutive loss, an early mini-skid during which they've scored only twice. They'll take a 1-3 overall record, along with a 1-1 league mark, into next week's National Collegiate Hockey Conference series at Western Michigan University.
Clarkson, which won 2-1 on Friday behind some superb goaltending of its own, grew more confident as Saturday's rematch progressed. After out-shooting the determined visitors by a slim 6-5 margin in the opening 20 minutes, the Golden Knights peppered the Colorado College cage with 12 shots in the second period, 16 in the third and nine more in the 4 minutes and 50 seconds of overtime.
But, until Zarbo cut across the slot from left to right and ended the contest with 9.9 seconds left in the extra session, it appeared as if Thorimbert would preserve the first scoreless tie in 75 seasons of CC hockey history.
Instead, it was freshman goaltender Steve Perry at the other end who posted the first shutout of his career and helped Clarkson improve to 6-1-1 for the campaign.
Ben Sexton and Jordan Boucher assisted on Zarbo's game-winning tally.
The Tigers had four power-play opportunities in the game, compared to three for the Golden Knights, and finished 0-for-6 for the weekend in man-advantage situations.
