Tigers drop 67-57 decision to Occidental

Box Score In only her second collegiate game, freshman forward Korbyn Ukasick gave Colorado College a glimpse of what she can provide in the future.

Ukasick led a young CC squad with 14 points and eight rebounds, but a pair of seniors proved to be too much to handle and Occidental College pulled away in the second half for a 67-57 victory on Sunday afternoon at Reid Arena.

Michelle Naito-Lo scored 23 points and Elizabeth Messick grabbed 20 rebounds for Occidental, which squared its record at 1-1.

Freshman guard Esra Siddeek scored eight of her 11 points during the first half to help the host Tigers take a 32-31 lead after 20 minutes.

After senior forward Kristen Treat scored five straight points to give the visitors a 31-28 lead with 37 seconds remaining in the half, Colorado College regained it on a pair of free throws and a jumper by sophomore guard Katie Wirth with three ticks to go.

Oxy stole back the momentum on a 3-pointer by Ashton Reid 14 seconds into the second half and the best CC could do after that was tie the score at 34-34.

Colorado College pulled to within 58-55 on a pair of free throws by sophomore forward Danielle Davis with 2:21 left, but Occidental scored a pair of uncontested layups and sealed the game by making five of six free throws during the final minute.

Junior guard Courtney Tyus finished with nine points, five rebounds and five steals for CC, while Wirth added seven points and three assists.

Colorado College heads out on the road for the first time next week for three games in Southern California, beginning with a date at California Lutheran University on Thursday, Nov. 21.
