CC braces for game against Brown

Single non-conference game on tap as Tigers try to open 2014 on winning note

Complete weekly update

The Tigers usher in the New Year this weekend, playing host to Brown University in a single non-conference contest that kicks off the second half of their 2013-14 schedule.

Faceoff is 7:07 p.m. MT Saturday at the World Arena.

While Colorado College engages in its first competition since Dec. 14, a span of 21 days, the Bears have been idle since Dec. 7. They meet the University of Denver at DU's Magness Arena on Friday.

CC, which occupies fifth place in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference with a 2-5-3-1 mark in league play, is 2-12-3 overall after dropping a pair of decisions (4-1 and 4-3 in overtime) at the University of Wisconsin three weekends ago.

Brown, currently eighth in the 12-team ECAC at 3-4-1 after skating to a pair of home-ice victories over Harvard (2-1) and Dartmouth (3-2 in overtime) nearly a month ago, is 5-6-1 overall heading into Friday's outing against the Pioneers.

Saturday's game marks the first meeting between the teams since the 1976-77 season, when the Bears claimed a 4-3 triumph at their own holiday invitational tournament a few days before Christmas. They also defeated Colorado College, 8-4, in the semifinals of the NCAA playoffs at the old Broadmoor Ice Palace in March of 1951. The Tigers have won four of five other encounters, however, and lead the rivalry by a 4-3 margin overall.

CC will be without freshman defenseman Gustav Olofsson, who remains in his native Sweden representing his country at the 2014 IIHF Junior World Championship which ends on Sunday. Jaccob Slavin, who played for Team USA before it was eliminated in the tournament quarterfinals on Thursday, may be back in action for the Tigers.
