Tigers take a bite out of Adams State

Box Score Colorado College is used to playing two games in a row, but it's been 13 years since the Tigers played twice in one day.

After beginning the day with an 11-8 victory over Fort Lewis College, the Tigers capped their long day at Stewart Field by cruising to a 15-4 win over Adams State University.

Senior midfielder Kate Krieger and freshman midfielder Madison Merrill scored three goal apiece to help CC match its largest margin of victory this season.

Freshman attacker Sammy Blair struck for the first two goals of her career and was one of five Tigers to find the nest at least twice. Freshman defender Molly Scudder also recorded her first collegiate goal.

Colorado College opened a 4-0 lead when sophomore attacker Virginia Logue scored 9:21 into the game. After Lexy Hamilton put the ASU on the board with the first of her two goals, freshman attacker Becca Gasperoni struck for what proved to be the game
winner with 11:08 to play in the first half.

The Tigers added four more tallies in the final 3:34 of the half, including one by Logue with less than a second to play before the break.

CC finished with a 33-12 advantage in total shots and a 24-28 edge in ground balls.

Fink stopped three shots before giving way to freshman Martha Smith with 11:08 to play in the first half.

Freshman Grace Komatz made eight saves in the first half, while sophomore Danica Kristiansen had five in the final 30 minutes.

Senior midfielder Anna Crosby and sophomore midfielder Leigh Nicholl each recorded three caused turnovers and a pair of ground balls to lead the defense.

Colorado College heads back to the road next week for a pair of games against nationally-ranked opponents. The Tigers visit No. 6 Colby College on Thursday, April 18, and then No. 9 Bowdoin College on Sunday, April 21.
