Box Score Horst Richardson knew all along that it was bound to happen.
Â
On Sunday evening, following more than a three-hour delay in starting time due to inclement weather, Colorado College scored enough goals to win. Â
Â
Senior forwards
Brandon Ogilvie (2:21) and
Sean Parham (3:09) struck for a pair of tallies just 48 seconds apart early in the game, sparking the Tigers to their first victory of the season – a 3-1 triumph over the University of Dallas in both teams' Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opener at Washburn Field.Â
Â
Lightning struck, literally and figuratively, after an 0-2-2 start that included a pair of home-field ties in which the Tigers produced a total of one goal. They found their finishing touch early on Sunday, as Ogilvie pounced on a rebound off
Hunter Martinez's blocked shot at 2:21 and Parham rocketed home a rising blast from the upper right side of the box at 3:09.
Â
Freshman
Caden MacKenzie provided some insurance with 11:42 left in the contest, clicking on a nice passing play with Ogilvie for his first career goal to round out the scoring.
Â
Richardson, currently in his 49
th year as head coach, expected a positive response from his team after Friday's 1-1 tie with Chapman University. It wasn't a matter of "if" – only "when."
Â
"That's the start I wanted to have," Richardson said. "We easily could have had a third (early goal), and the game would have been over. We were thinking it would be easy. You take your foot off the pedal, and who knows? It was a long, rainy day, but we persevered and I'm delighted for the team."
Â
Dallas, 4-2 overall, got on the scoreboard late in the first half when Aaron Hegemann came off the bench and beat sophomore keeper
Ian Horne cleanly from the top of the box after taking a precision feed from Tino Gamueda. That cut Colorado College's early lead in half, but the visiting Crusaders would not solve the CC defense or Horne again. The victory was Horne's first in net as a Tiger.
