No. 11 Miami Downs CC, 3-0

Chase Perry makes 38 saves for the Tigers

Box Score | Updated Stats

Freshman goalie Chase Perry played the best game of his young career Friday night in Oxford, Ohio, but it wasn't quite enough. Perry, making his second career start, made 38 saves but Alex Wideman scored twice in the third period and Austin Czarnik added two assists to lead No. 11 Miami past Colorado College 3-0 at Steve Cady Arena.

Wideman took a lead pass from Matthew Caito at the blue line and beat Perry stick-side with 9:16 remaining in the final period to break the scoreless tie, then struck again with 5:57 left off a centering pass from Riley Barber. Sean Kuraly added an empty-net goal in the final minute as the RedHawks improved to 6-3 overall and 2-1 in the NCHC. CC, meanwhile, lost for the fifth straight time and fell to 2-5 and 0-3.

Perry was the star of the game through the first 50 minutes, making 36 saves before Wideman scored the first of his two goals. He had 20 saves alone in the second period, including several from point-blank range and at least two without his stick.

"Chase was very good tonight," said CC head coach Mike Haviland. "We had a lot of positives and I am really proud of our effort."

Each team thought it scored in the second period, but both goals were overturned after video replay. CC's Cody Bradley put the puck past Miami goalie Jay Williams just over a minute into the frame, but it was determined that the net was dislodged before the puck went in. Later in the period, Barber placed a shot past Perry, but video showed Miami was offside entering the zone to negate that score.

Neither team could find the net on the power-play as CC killed off all five Miami's opportunities but was 0-for-3 with the man advantage.

"We need to clean some things up, but it is stuff we can build on," said Haviland. "We need to play a very similar game tomorrow night."

Williams notched his third career shutout for Miami with 21 saves.

The two teams will play on Saturday, Nov. 8 beginning at 7:05 pm (ET).
