Complete Results >Despite competing without several of its top swimmers, the Colorado College men's swimming and diving team turned in some impressive individual performances during Saturday's 190-77 loss to Division II Colorado School of Mines.

"The men were really challenged today by the fact that we had several of our top men unable to compete because of injuries and illness," head coach
Anne Goodman James said. "They didn't let that bother them, as they each took the approach of one great swim at a time."Â

Chris Garrity finished second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 56.46 and placed third in the 100 backstroke in 56.46. In the same events, senior
Erik Laitos took fifth in the 100 fly (59.100 and sixth in the 100 back (58.55).

Chris Garrity was called upon to do some difficult doubles, and he handled them much better than in the first meet," Goodman James said. "
Erik Laitos had an especially good day, with great swims in the 100 back and 100 fly.Â

Senior
Sam Zuke had an outstanding day in the sprints, leading the Tigers by taking third in the 50 freestyle in 22.48 and fifth in the 100 with a clocking of 52.77.

Sam Zuke has really stepped up in the sprints and the relays," Goodman James said. "He swam a 21.9 in his 200 free relay split, showing power and focus."Â

Senior
Austin Howlett picked up where he left off last season, posting NCAA qualifying scores in both diving events. He won the 1-meter board with a score of 332.70 and the 3-meter event with 312.08 points.

Freshman
Trey Watmore posted a pair of second-place finishes in the 200 breaststroke, touching the wall in 2:31.84, and the 200 individual medley with an effort of 2:14.14.

Other top finished were turned in by junior Yang Yu, who claimed second in the 100 breast in 1:06.97, and sophomore
Daniel Oldendorf, whose time of 2:04.95 in the 200 back was good for third.

Colorado College returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 15, when the Tigers host Adams State University at Schlessman Natatorium.
