NCHC 'hat trick' for Slavin

Freshman defenseman earns weekly league honors for third time

This is becoming somewhat of a habit for Jaccob Slavin.

Slavin, a freshman defenseman who ranks second among all Tiger players with 17 points in 2013-14, was honored by the National Collegiate Hockey Conference for the third time this season on Monday when he was named NCHC Rookie of the Week.

The Erie, Colo., product and Carolina Hurricanes prospect dished out three assists in CC's 4-4 tie and 3-0 victory against Western Michigan University last Friday and Saturday. He also helped anchor a penalty-killing effort that held the visiting Broncos scoreless on seven power plays in the series, as well as blocking four shots and launching nine of his own on the WMU goalies.

Two of his assists – one in each game – came during Colorado College power plays.

Slavin now leads the team with 13 helpers overall this campaign, when he's honored as NCHC Rookie of the Week twice and Defenseman of the Week on another occasion.
