Fast start lifts Schreiner past CC

Box Score Schreiner University took advantage of red-hot shooting and 11 Colorado College turnovers during the opening 14 minutes to record a 66-48 victory on Friday night at CC's Reid Arena.

The Mountaineers scored the game's first 10 points on layups, and after Tyler Jonas put the Tigers on the board 7:04 into the contest, went on a 16-4 run to build a 20-point advantage with 5:52 to play in the first half.

Colorado College scored the final six points to cut its deficit to 14 after 20 minutes and pulled to within 12 when senior guard Ryan Milne hit a driving layup 44 seconds into the second half, but that proved to be as close as the Tigers would get.

After Milne sank a pair of free throws to make it 35-23 with 16:03 left, Schreiner used a 12-4 run to regain the 20-point cushion with a little more than 12 minutes to play.

Milne led CC with 12 points and seven rebounds. With his game-high four steals, Milne climbed into a tie for fifth place with Aaron Griess (1989-93) on the program's all-time list with 131.

Junior forward Chris Lesnansky also reached double figures with 11 points.

Senior guard AJ Myres and junior guard Stevan Guerrero paced the Mountaineers with 13 points apiece.

The Tigers slipped to 13-6 overall and 6-4 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Schreiner improved to 11-10 overall and 7-3 in league play.

Colorado College returns to action on Sunday when it plays host to Texas Lutheran University at noon.
