Tyus shines, but CC falls to Schreiner

Box Score Courtney Tyus proved once again that she is one of the most complete players in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, but Schreiner University used a 20-8 run midway through the second half to open an 11-point lead and defeat Colorado College, 63-55, on Friday night at Reid Arena.

Tyus poured in 17 points and recorded eight rebounds and six steals to pace the Tigers. With six assists, the junior guard became the fourth player in school history to record 100 or more in a single season, joining Annie Hull (1990-91), Mary Voelbel (2000-01) and Melanie Auguste, who reached the milestone during each of her four seasons.

Sophomore forward Danielle Davis added 12 points for CC, which dropped to 1-20 overall and 1-9 in league play.

After falling behind 13-2 during the opening seven minutes, Colorado College stormed back with 12 consecutive points to take its first lead on a jumper by freshman forward Kalli Place with 8:02 remaining in the first half.

Sophomore guard Katie Waters scored four of her eight points during the final 55 seconds to give the Tigers a 24-21 lead after 20 minutes.

Kelsie Jackson led the Mountaineers with 19 points and seven rebounds, while Lindsey Peterson added 14 points and six boards.

Bailey Harris dished out nine assists for Schreiner, which improved to 12-9 overall and 7-3 in league play.

Colorado College plays host to Texas Lutheran University on Sunday at 2 p.m.
