Texas Lutheran rallies to edge Tigers

Box Score Colorado College showed once again that it can play with the top teams in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Thanks to a career-high 21 points from sophomore guard Katie Waters, the Tigers went toe-to-toe with Texas Lutheran University, but the second-place Bulldogs made six of eight free throws during the final 39 seconds and escaped CC's Reid Gymnasium with a 70-64 victory on Sunday afternoon.

After a Danielle Davis layup gave Colorado College a 40-38 lead five minutes into the second half, TLU answered with seven consecutive points and stayed in front until Waters knotted the score at 60-60 with 1:33 to play.

Karisa Cantu scored on a layup to put the Bulldogs back in the lead and they sealed the victory at the charity stripe.

Cantu and Kristen Lye scored 12 points apiece for Texas Lutheran, which improved to 17-5 overall and 9-2 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

The Tigers were at their best during the opening 20 minutes. Davis gave CC a 23-14 lead by sinking a pair of free throws with 7:15 remaining in the half, but TLU trimmed its deficit to three when Savannah Hight drained a three-pointer in the closing seconds.

Colorado College's Courtney Tyus posted her third double-double of the season with 11 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

Davis finished with 13 points, while Korbyn Ukasick added 11.

Katie Wirth grabbed eight rebounds and dished out four assists for CC, which dropped to 1-21 overall and 1-10 in conference play.

Colorado College plays its final road games of the regular season next weekend when the Tigers travel to Austin College and Centenary College on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
