Box Score For the second year in a row, Colorado College overcame a slow start to record a one-goal victory at Occidental College. But this time, the hole was even deeper.
Madeline Pitkin tied her season-high with four markers as CC rallied from a 5-0 deficit to defeat Occidental, 10-9, on Sunday.
Pitkin, who put Colorado College on the board with 8:45 remaining in the first half, scored three times during a five-goal outburst that knotted the contest on
Mary Taussig's first marker with 20:06 to play.
Rebecca Belding scored twice in a span of 1:56 to give OXY an 7-5 advantage with 16:15 to go, but CC answered with a marker from
Molly Lyons and two more from Pitkin to take its first lead with a little more than 10 minutes remaining.
After Mary Richardson tied the game on the second of her two goals with 7:13 to play, Taussig and
Virginia Logue struck just 31 seconds apart to give Colorado College a 10-8 cushion with 5:20 left in the contest.
Occidental cut its deficit to one on Beebe Finch Sanders' third goal with 4:04 remaining, but it was unable to notch the equalizer on its three possessions.
Taussig secured the victory when she forced a turnover with 24 seconds remaining and then grabbed the ground ball to allow CC to run out the clock. The first-year midfielder finished with five draw controls and three ground balls.
Madeline Scherer also scored twice in the triumph.
CC recorded a 26-23 advantage in ground balls, which led to a 26-24 edge in total shots.
Molly Lyons recorded five ground balls and a caused turnover for Colorado College, which improved to 11-3 with its fifth consecutive victory.
Goaltender
Martha Smith made five of her six saves during the first half for CC.
Kirsten Hee stopped nine shots for OXY, which slipped to 8-2.
Colorado College is idle until Saturday, April 12, when it plays host to Adams State University at Stewart Field.
