Led by sophomore
Casey Shaw, who emerged victorious in both his matches, Colorado College made a quick recovery and got back on the winning track on Sunday.
Visiting CC prevailed in five of six singles matches, including Shaw's 6-2, 6-2 triumph at No. 2, and defeated Southwestern University in its last of three Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference matches over Easter Weekend in Texas.
Coming less than 24 hours after a 9-0 loss at Trinity University on Saturday, the victory evened the Tigers' overall record at 8-8 and gave them a 2-1 mark in league play heading into next weekend's SCAC championships in San Antonio.
Shaw also combined with freshman
Jason Gutierrez to beat their Pirate opponents at No. 2 doubles, 8-3.
"This was a big win for the guys to finish a long weekend of tennis and travel, and possibly secure a 3 seed in the SCAC tournament next weekend," said head coach
Anthony Weber. "It was the best weekend of tennis we've played all season, and I think we can fix a few more things this week to prepare for the weekend.
"Playing Trinity on Saturday was a great opportunity for our guys to compete against one of the best teams in the country. It's always great to see how we can get better – whether it's physically, mentally, tactically or technically."
