Tigers grounded at Fort Lewis

Box Score Despite a career-high 12 saves by sophomore goaltender Martha Smith, Colorado College came out on the wrong end of an 8-4 decision in the regular-season finale at Fort Lewis College on Saturday afternoon.

Freshman midfielder Sadie Cole staked the Tigers to a 2-0 lead a little less than eight minutes into the contest after scoring twice in a span of 1:46.

Jessica Norby answered with a pair of goals to tie the game, but neither team was able to find the net during the final 18 minutes of the first half.

The Skyhawks took the lead on a tally by Jam Vertner and they added four more tallies to build a 7-2 cushion with 18:25 remaining.

Cole and senior midfielder Elise Burchard scored 59 seconds apart to pull CC to within three with 13:25 to play, but that proved to be as close as the visitors would get.

Abby Kvidera closed out the scoring with 9:56 remaining in the game as Fort Lewis recorded its first-ever victory over the Tigers.

Colorado College finished with a 28-26 edge in total shots and won nine of 13 draw controls.

Goaltender Alyssa Smith stopped 15 shots for the Skyhawks, who improved to 9-6.

CC, which slipped to 13-6, will have to wait until Monday, May 5, to find out if it will receive an at-large selection to the 2014 NCAA Tournament.
