Saturday's Game NotesMichael Parks scored an unassisted, shorthanded goal on a breakaway at the 6:37 mark of the third period to lift second-ranked North Dakota over Colorado College, 2-1, Friday night at Ralph Engelstad Arena.
Â
Just 15 seconds after UND's Connor Gaarder was called for tripping, Parks took advantage of a turnover at the Tiger blue line and beat CC goalie
Tyler Marble for his ninth goal and fourth game-winner of the season. North Dakota goalie Zane McIntyre turned away several shots by CC after Marble was pulled with one minute remaining to seal the victory for UND (17-5-2 overall, 8-4-1 NCHC).
Â
CC's
Alex Roos opened the scoring at the 4:01 mark of the first period when he redirected a shot from the left point by Scott Wamganz past McIntyre. It was Roos' third goal of the season and first since Oct. 24.
Cody Bradley gained his team-leading 11
th assist on the play.
Â
Mark MacMillan evened the game at 1-1 late in the second period when he gathered the puck behind Marble, faked one way, then put a wraparound in the net with Marble on the opposite post.
Â
"This was a very impressive performance from start to finish for us," said CC head coach
Mike Haviland. "We had chances to score late with the puck on the right guys' sticks."
Â
CC, which outshot UND 31-28, had several chances in the third period, including one by
Luc Gerdes that clanged off the right post. Bradley also had three shots right in front of the net, but McIntyre saved all 10 Tiger shots in the final frame.
Â
Marble made 26 saves for CC (5-15-1, 1-10-1) in his fourth consecutive solid outing, while McIntyre had 30 for North Dakota. CC was 0-2 on the power play and North Dakota came up empty on its only extra-man opportunity.
Â
"He (Marble) is playing with a lot of confidence right now," said Haviland. "He is doing a great jub with his focus and preparation."
Â
The same two teams meet on Saturday, Jan. 24, beginning at 6:07 p.m. (MT).
