Box Score Colorado College played its best road game of the season, but a lack of efficiency at the free-throw line allowed Southwestern University to escape with a 72-68 victory on Friday night.
The Tigers converted on just 11 of 21 trips to the charity stripe, while the Pirates made 15 of 19 attempts overall and four in a row during the final 62 seconds.
Junior forward
Danielle Davis led the Tigers with 21 points, her third game this season with 20 or more. She also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Â
Senior guard
Courtney Tyus dished out a career-high 12 assists and added 12 point to record her fifth career double-double.
Sophomore forward
Korbyn Ukasick scored 13 points, while junior guard
Katie Waters finished with 11.
CC erased a 12-point first-half deficit and took a 39-38 lead on a jumper by Tyus just under four minutes into the second half.
After a Southwestern free throw tied the score, another Tyus bucket gave the Tigers a lead they held until only 6:34 remained on the clock.
Madison Eschle's layup put the Pirates ahead, and they led 64-59 after Annie Bourne scored with 3:45 to go.
A three-pointer and a free throw by Ukasick pulled Colorado College to within 64-63, but that proved to be as close as the Tigers would get.
Southwestern opened a 70-64 lead after Audrey Garcia sank a pair of free throws, but back-to-back layups by Davis pulled CC to within two points with 19 seconds to go.
A pair of charity tosses by Valerie Logan extended SU's lead to four points, and after a three-point attempt by Tyus wouldn't fall, the Pirates ran out the clock. Â Â Â Â
Jordan Owens led the Pirates with a game-high 24 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
Bourne scored 15 points and pulled down a game-high nine boards, while Olivia Podaras also reached double figures with 10 points.
Colorado College, 2-12 overall and 2-1 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, visits Texas Lutheran University on Saturday night.
