Coach Haviland's Post-Game Press ConferenceRyan Fitzgerald scored twice and Jeremy Bracco assisted on all three goals to lead No. 4 Boston College to a 3-0 victory over Colorado College Friday night at The Broadmoor World Arena. The Eagles improved to 3-1 this season, while the Tigers fell to 0-5.
Â
After a scoreless first period, Fitzgerald put the Eagles ahead 1-0 at the 4:21 mark of the second period with a wrister from the right circle that eluded Tiger goalie
Jacob Nehama. Just seconds earlier, Nehama had stoned Fitzgerald on a breakaway but BC kept the puck in the zone. Bracco and Colin White each earned an assist on the play.
Â
Fitzgerald struck again with less than six minutes remaining in the third period, this time taking a pass from Bracco and, while streaking down the left side, fired a shot above Nehama's shoulder and just under the crossbar. Zach Sanford scored the final goal with 1:48 remaining with a one-timer from the top of the right circle that found its way just inside the far post after receiving a cross-ice pass from Bracco.
Â
Nehama was solid in net for the second straight outing, making 31 saves, including some acrobatic ones in the second period.
Â
"He (Nehama) was really good again tonight," head coach
Mike Haviland said. "We did a good job in the neutral zone clogging them up, but they are ranked fourth in the country for a reason."
Â
Defensemen
Andrew Farny and
Teemu Kivihalme led the Tigers with five and four shots, respectively, but BC's goalie Thatcher Demko saved all 24 shots he faced. Neither team was successful on the power play, with the Eagles going 0-for-3 and CC not capitalizing on any of its four chances.
Â
"We needed to get around the net a little more tonight," Haviland said. "We needed to get in his (Demko) eyes."
Â
The same two teams will battle Saturday night, beginning at 7:07 p.m.
