Danielle Davis earned her first double-double of the season, but that wasn't enough as the Colorado College women's basketball team dropped a 69-65 decision to Alverno College to open the CC Tip-Off Classic on Friday evening in Reid Arena.

Davis scored a season-high 23 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Tigers on both the offensive and defensive side of the court. Davis shot 10-of-16 from the floor for a 62.5 field-goal percentage and went 3-for-4 from the charity stripe.

Katie Wirth also scored in double figures for CC with 12 points, while senior
Katie Waters and sophomore
Francesca Cendali dished out five assists each.

Waters dished a pass to Davis for a layup on the opening possession of the game, which ignited an 8-0 run through the first four minutes of the first quarter. CC continued to build upon its lead, earning its largest lead at 18-8, when Wirth drained a pair of free throws with 39 seconds remaining.

The Tigers held a 34-26 lead with 1:13 remaining in the second quarter after freshman
Jessica Savage hit a jumper, but a layup by Alverno's Brooke McBaine with one minute to play sparked a 6-0 run to cut CC's lead to just 34-32 going into halftime.

The Inferno had another late run in the third quarter when CC held a 51-44 lead with 2:53 left to play. Nikayla Ramsey drained a layup, which ignited a 13-0 run to close out the quarter and give Alverno a 57-51 lead.

The Tigers battled in the fourth quarter and pulled to within a point with 3:17 left in the game; however, they were unable to pull ahead as Alverno finished the game on a 7-4 run.

The Inferno (2-1) was led by McBain with 12 points, while Karli Selear and Mikyska added 11 points apiece. Â Â Â Â

Colorado College (0-2) will play Benedictine University to close out the CC Tip-Off Classic on Saturday at 6 p.m. in Reid Arena.
