Davis Powers Tigers Past Lewis & Clark

Box Score Senior forward Danielle Davis poured in 25 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Colorado College to an 80-74 victory over Lewis & Clark College on Friday afternoon in the second game of the 2015 Rocky Mountain Thanksgiving Classic at Reid Arena.

Davis scored 10 points and recorded a pair of assists during the third quarter when CC outscored the Pioneers 24-11 while building a 64-52 after 30 minutes.

Sophomore guard Francesca Cendali gave the Tigers an 18-point lead when she scored the last of career-high 10 points on a layup 3:08 into the second half.

The Pioneers pulled to within six points on a pair of free throws by Janessa Willie with 1:10 to play, but Colorado College made four of six from the charity stripe during the final 35 seconds to record their first victory of the season.

"One of the things we've done in the last couple of games is get a lead, but let the other team get back in the game," Davis said. "Today we stayed consistent at both ends of the court and were able to give ourselves a cushion. They cut into the lead late in the fourth quarter, but we were able to close it out."

Senior guard Katie Waters scored nine points for CC, while senior guard Katie Wirth added five points, five rebounds and five assists.

"The seniors have worked their tails off to get us in position to compete in these early season games," head coach Liz Doran said. "Danielle does a lot of good things for us, including things that don't show up on the stat sheet. She's a gifted leader who gets our team to play together."

Colorado College raced to an early 21-8 lead and was up 26-10 after one quarter. The Pioneers regained the lead when Miyah Leith knocked down a jumper with five minutes remaining in the second quarter and led 39-32 after Cianna Ochoco connected from behind the arc with 3:11 to play before the break.

Davis scored the first and last baskets during an 8-0 run that gave CC a 40-39 lead, but a pair of free throws by Natalie Kelly gave the visitors a 41-40 edge after 20 minutes.

Junior forward Korbyn Ukasick scored 10 points for the Tigers, who improved to 1-4. Freshman point guard Casey Torbet added six points and four assists.

Sophomore forward Lauren Wood finished with 17 points and eight rebounds for Lewis & Clark. Kelly also reached double-digits with 11 points.

In the first game of the day, Jessica Lillquist scored 32 points and hauled in 15 rebounds to lead Augsburg College to an 80-71 victory over North Central College.

Colorado College plays host to North Central on Saturday at 3 p.m. Augsburg faces Lewis & Clark at 1 p.m.
