The ninth-ranked Denver Pioneers completed a weekend sweep of Colorado College with a 3-1 victory Saturday night at The Broadmoor World Arena. With the victory, DU holds on to The Gold Pan trophy.

After a scoreless 36 minutes, Troy Terry put the Pioneers (5-3, 2-0 NCHC) ahead 1-0 with 3:35 remaining in the second period. Terry skated from the left point to the high slot and beat CC freshman goalie Jacob Nehama glove side.

The Tigers evened the score early in the third period when senior Cody Bradley gathered a rebound in the slot following a shot from freshman Andrew Farny and put the puck into an open net past DU goalie Tanner Jaillet. Freshman Jake Emilio also earned an assist on Bradley's second goal of the season.

Later in the third period, CC sophomore Teemu Kivihalme took a slashing penalty during a mini-breakaway and on the ensuing power play, Matt Marcinew notched the game-winner with a slap shot from the left circle midway through the final frame. The Pioneers were 1-for-3 on the power play, while CC was 0-for-2.

Dylan Gambrell scored an insurance goal for DU with 2:03 left in the game. Danton Heinen stole the puck deep in the CC end and found Gambrell, who beat Nehama from the slot.

"Once again, we played a pretty hard fought game but we need to win one of these close ones," head coach Mike Haviland said. "We still need to elevate our level on the power play."

Nehama had 29 saves for the Tigers (0-10, 0-4 NCHC) and Jaillet finished with 19. Kivihalme had a game-high five shots, while Marcinew and Trevor Moore led the Pioneers with four apiece.

The Tigers are idle until hosting Minnesota Duluth, Nov. 20-21.
