Seventh-ranked Miami scored three unanswered goals Friday night and defeated Colorado College 3-1 in National Collegiate Hockey Conference action at The Broadmoor World Arena. The RedHawks improved to 17-9-1 overall and 10-6-1-1 in the NCHC, while the Tigers fell to 5-20-1 overall and 1-15-1-0 in league play.

CC sophomore Luc Gerdes opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal at the 6:19 mark of the first period. Jaccob Slavin brought the puck into the zone and found Matt Hansen, whose shot was blocked and the puck rolled to the left circle where Gerdes put a backhander past Miami goalie Jay Williams. It was Gerdes' second goal of the season and the team's second shorthanded tally of the campaign. Hunter Fejes notched one in the second game of the season on Oct. 11.

Miami answered just 26 seconds later as Cody Murphy deflected an Anthony Louis shot from the slot past CC netminder Tyler Marble for a power-play goal.

Miami's final two goals each came on an odd-man rush. Riley Barber scored the game-winner with 3:38 remaining in the second period, a shorthanded tally with just one second remaining on Blake Coleman's interference penalty. Barber took a lead pass from NCHC assist leader Austin Czarnik, moved down the right side and dragged the puck for a split-second before beating Marble with a wrister.

Justin Greenberg gave Miami an insurance goal with 10:51 left in the game, taking a centering pass from Kevin Morris on a 2-on-1 opportunity and making it a 3-1 game.

Marble made 31 saves as the RedHawks outshot CC 34-23. Williams finished with 22 saves. Murphy's goal was the only power-play tally of the night. Miami went 1-4 and CC was 0-3.

The same two teams will meet Saturday night at 7:07 p.m.
