Box ScoreTrevor Moore scored two goals and Tanner Jaillet stopped all 30 shots he faced to lead No. 10 Denver to a 3-0 victory over Colorado College Friday night in front of 7,498 fans at The Broadmoor World Arena. The Pioneers, who took a 2-0 lead in the battle for The Gold Pan, improved to 16-9-1 overall and 9-7-0 in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference, while the Tigers fell to 5-19-1 and 1-14-1 in league play.
Â
DU's Danton Heinen, who had a hand in all three of Denver's goals, opened the scoring at the 11:45 mark of the first period when he redirected a shot by Joey LaLeggia past CC goalie
Tyler Marble. Heinen then assisted on both of Moore's goals, including a nice crossing pass to the far post that gave Moore an open net 7:21 into the second frame.
Â
Moore wrapped up the scoring with an empty net goal with 1:36 remaining in the third period after CC defenseman
Jaccob Slavin slipped at his own blue line, creating a 2-on-0 break for Moore and Heinen. LaLeggia gathered his second assist of the game on the play.
Â
The Tigers, who outshot DU 30-28, had several chances from point-blank range throughout the game but could not solve Jaillet.
Charlie Taft had a breakaway within the first few minutes of the game and
Aaron Harstad found himself all alone in the slot four minutes into the third, but Jaillet stuffed both opportunities. Taft,
Christian Heil and
Matt Hansen led CC with four shots apiece, one shy of DU's Daniel Doremus' game-high five.
Â
Marble, who had to leave the ice momentarily after suffering a cut on his forehead but returned without missing any time, finished with 25 saves. The Pioneers were 0-3 on the power play and CC did not capitalize on its only power-play chance, which lasted 1:18. The Tigers have not had a full, two-minute power play in its last two games.
Â
Colorado College continues its six-game homestand with a pair of game next weekend, Feb. 13-14, against Miami University.
