Davis Grabs 500th Career Rebound

Box Score Senior forward Danielle Davis scored a game-high 24 points and became the 19th player in Colorado College women's basketball history to record 500 or more career rebounds, but the Tigers dropped a 73-56 decision to Schreiner University in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action on Sunday at Reid Arena.

With 6:39 left in the game, Davis grabbed her 500th career rebound off of a missed layup by freshman guard Casey Torbet. Davis pulled down five rebounds and finished the game with a career total of 503. She became the 11th CC player all-time to register at least 1,000 career points and 500 career rebounds.

Senior forward Korbyn Ukasick also scored in double-figures for the Tigers with 15 points and added a game-best seven rebounds, while senior guard Katie Wirth handed out a game-best seven assists.

CC held its largest lead at 6-0 when Davis went up from a layup with 6:32 left in the opening quarter. Schreiner, however, scored the next six points to tie the game and after trading baskets the game was tied, 10-10, after 10 minutes of action.

The Tigers took a 13-12 lead when Ukasick drained a shot from behind the arc, but the Mountaineers answered with a three of their own from senior guard Kelsie Jackson to spark an 8-0 run.

Wirth dished a pass to freshman forward Katy Loy for a jumper to help ignite a 12-4 run to pull CC within 25-26 with 1:45 remaining before halftime, but a pair of free-throw shots and a layup gave Schreiner a 30-25 lead at intermission.

Schreiner continued its run in the third quarter to take a commanding 38-57 lead when Jackson sank a layup to close out 30 minutes of action.

Sophomore guard Francesca Cendali cut the Mountaineers lead to 65-49 on a pair of free throws with 3:09 remaining, but junior guard Chris Jones gave Schreiner its largest lead with just under two minutes to play.

SU (4-8, 2-0 SCAC) was led by Jackson with 22 points and freshman guard Kendall Dyal with 13 points.

Colorado College (2-13, 1-3 SCAC) travels to Texas for its first conference road matches of the season as the team takes on University of Dallas and Austin College on Friday and Saturday evening, respectively.
