UNLV Pulls Away from Tigers In Second Half

Box Score Colorado College gave the Mountain West leaders all they could handle for 50 minutes, but UNLV caught fire in the second half and pulled away for a 4-1 victory on Sunday afternoon at Stewart Field.

Lauren Milliet put CC on the board in the 18th minute when she converted on her first career attempt from the penalty spot. The sophomore midfielder sent a shot into the left side as junior goalkeeper Jordan Sallee dove to her right.

The sequence began when sophomore midfielder Kelli Sullivan forced a turnover at midfield and played the ball forward to Milliet, who was making a run toward the right side of the offensive third. Milliet sent the ball through to freshman forward Catie McDonald, who was taken down from behind in the box by UNLV's Kendall Sandoval.

Senior forward Lily Sender leveled the score 6:31 into the second half when she pounced on the rebound of a shot by senior midfielder Jordan Magnin in the center of the box and scored from two yards out.

The Rebels took the lead in the 65th minute when Magnin found the top left 90 with a blast from 22 yards away in the center of the field.

UNLV closed out the scoring with goals by senior forward Brittney Gideon and Sender.

The Tigers launched five of their seven shots during the first half, including a pair by Madeline Stesney. The freshman midfielder nearly doubled CC's lead with a little less than five minutes remaining before the break, but her bending shot from the left side was grabbed by Sallee near the far post.

The Rebels finished the contest with a 15-7 advantage in total shots. Each team produced four corner kicks.

Junior goalkeeper Louisa Mackenzie stopped five shots, including a diving save on a ball from junior midfielder Sophie Cortez 40 seconds into the second half.

Sallee finished with a pair of saves for UNLV, which improved to 13-3-1 overall and 6-1-1 in conference play.

Colorado College (7-9-0, 3-5-0 MW) plays host to Fresno State on Friday, Oct. 21, before heading to San Jose State two days later for its final Mountain West road game of the regular season.
