Tigers Fall at San Jose State

Box Score Despite a strong second-half performance, Colorado College dropped a 3-1 decision at San Jose State in its final road game of the 2016 season.

First-year midfielder Catie McDonald scored her second goal of the season in the 79th minute to cap a solid second half, but the Tigers were unable to get any closer.

McDonald settled a throw in from freshman midfielder Ansley Queen, turned and launched a shot from 25 yards. The assist was Queen's first collegiate point.

SJSU broke through in the eighth minute when sophomore forward Darriell Franklin found the net with a header off of a cross from the left wing from senior midfielder Alexis Venegas.

The Spartans doubled their lead a little more than 15 minutes later when freshman defender Kristen Amarikwa headed home a free kick from the right wing by junior midfielder Yaritza Arista.

Venegas made it 3-0 in the 35th minute off a pass from senior forward Camila Villarino, who had dribbled to the goal line before chipping the ball back to the middle of the box.

San Jose State finished with an 11-7 advantage in total shots, while the CC recorded a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.

First-year goalkeeper Molly Hiniker stopped three shots for Colorado College.

The Tigers slipped to 7-11-0 overall and 3-7-0 in the Mountain West.

Freshman goalkeeper Ana Calero made a pair of saves for the Spartans, who improved to 10-4-4 overall and 7-2-1 in the conference.

CC plays host to Air Force in its regular-season finale on Friday, Oct. 28, at Washburn Field.
